Our Story

Two Siblings. One Garden Problem. And Roots That Go Back Much Further.

Tomato Spa™ may be a new idea, but the values behind it have been part of our family for generations.

We're siblings, Jonas and Carolyn, and some of our earliest memories together are summers in Sweden, where growing your own food wasn't a trend—it was simply part of life.

We grew up picking strawberries straight from the garden, digging potatoes from the earth and gathering fresh greens for dinner. Food came from the garden when it could. Scraps went into the compost. You cared for the land, appreciated what it gave you and tried not to waste things.

We didn't have words like sustainable living for it back then. It was simply how things were done.

Those experiences stayed with both of us, even though our careers eventually took us in very different directions.

The Grower & The Business Mind

Jonas turned that early connection to the land into more than 20 years of hands-on experience growing organic food. Over the years, he learned firsthand what works, what doesn't, and just how much effort goes into growing healthy food naturally. Eventually, that passion led him to build his own business around organic growing and outdoor living.

Carolyn followed a different path. Her passion for healthy, organic food remained, but her career centered on business—strategy, customers, marketing and identifying opportunities in the marketplace.

We had different skill sets, but one thing in common:

We've always had an entrepreneurial streak.

And when Jonas encountered a recurring problem in the garden, those two worlds came together.

There Had to Be a Better Way

Growing tomatoes can be incredibly rewarding. It can also be incredibly frustrating.

Changing temperatures, harsh weather and hungry pests can quickly undo weeks of careful tending. Jonas had experimented with different ways to give his plants additional protection and eventually began making his own homemade covers.

They weren't pretty, but they showed us something important:

The idea worked.

So we started looking for a better version.

We researched what was already available to home gardeners—covers, netting, bags and other solutions—but couldn't find one that really did what we wanted it to do.

That led to a very familiar sibling conversation:

“Why don't we just make it ourselves?”

Why Reinvent the Cage?

As we started developing the idea, one thing became obvious. We didn't need to redesign something gardeners already had.

Standard wire tomato cages are affordable, readily available and already used in gardens everywhere.

So we decided to design around them.

Our goal became creating a protective, reusable cover shaped specifically for the traditional tapered tomato cage—while still giving gardeners convenient access for watering, tending and harvesting their plants.

Jonas approached the design as a grower: Does this actually work in the garden?

Carolyn approached it as a consumer and businessperson: Is it simple, practical and something people will actually want to use?

Somewhere between those two questions, Tomato Spa was born.

From Our Garden to Yours

For us, Tomato Spa is about more than tomatoes.

It's a continuation of something we learned a long time ago in those Swedish gardens: take care of what you grow, respect where your food comes from and find simple ways to make the most of what the land gives you.

We've come a long way from picking strawberries and digging potatoes as kids, but apparently we never got very far from the garden.

And we're perfectly happy about that.
